How to choose a payment terminal.

A payment terminal is chosen for years, so a mistake costs more than the difference in price. This article covers how devices differ and what a business should check.

Types, features and cost of ownership.

Types of terminals

A classic payment terminal does one thing: it accepts card payments. It connects to the checkout and needs a separate checkout system next to it.

A smart terminal works differently: it is an Android device that combines payment acceptance, an online cash register and inventory. Each sale is processed once, the receipt is generated automatically and the data goes to the tax office without the cashier’s involvement.

Mobile terminals are a separate category for couriers, field technicians and trade outside a shop. They run on a battery and are not tied to one location.

What to check when choosing

  • Payment methods. The device should accept Uzcard, HUMO, international cards, contactless payments and the unified QR code.
  • Connectivity. A built-in SIM or eSIM removes the dependence on the shop’s Wi-Fi.
  • Integrations. The terminal should work with the accounting system the business uses. A terminal not linked to the warehouse and inventory turns every stocktake into manual work.
  • Service. How quickly a broken device is replaced matters more than any specification: a terminal that does not work means sales stop.

How much it costs

The cost is the price of the device plus the transaction fees. It makes sense to compare the total cost of ownership over a year: a cheap terminal with a high rate often costs more than a pricier device with favourable terms.

The right terminal covers the business’s needs without extra equipment next to it. A model for each type of outlet can be chosen from the Rahmat POS payment terminal range.
